PROCEDURES FOR COMPLETING THE APPLICATION

1.  Please read the Standards before completing the application, and leave both the Standards and application with the person who is assisting you.

2.  In order for your application to be complete, the following must be sent to us:

      (a)             High School Transcript:

Your transcript must be an official transcript issued by your high school or Board of Education.  The transcript must either be mailed directly to us from your high school or Board of Education in an official envelope, or delivered to the JAC office in an official envelope.  Official transcripts with embossed stamps certifying that they are official will also be accepted.  If you did not graduate, you will need to have your GED scores mailed to us in addition to your high school transcript.  GED scores will also need to be either mailed in an official envelope by the facility where you took the test or by the Secretary of Education for the state in which the test was administered, or delivered to the JAC office in an official envelope.  Official GED scores with embossed stamps certifying that they are official will also be accepted.   Note: Don’t wait until the last minute to submit these documents.

      (b)             Driving Record:

A driving record may be obtained from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety or an Oklahoma Tag Agency.  This document may either be mailed directly from the place it was obtained, or applicants may personally deliver it.  There is usually a fee of $25.00 for the driving record.  The driving record must be dated no earlier than the day you apply.

These documents must be submitted to the following address no later than the deadline for the current interview period.  If the documents are sent by mail, they must be postmarked on or before the deadline for the current interview period.  Please see the chart on the next page for the quarterly deadlines for submitting applicant documentation.

Sheet Metal Workers’ JAC

If the required documents are not submitted to us on or before the deadline, your application will be considered incomplete, and you will not be scheduled for an interview with the Committee.  It is very important that the high school transcript and/or GED are official copies proven by one or more of the methods stated above.  Failure to provide official copies would void your application.  In order to verify that we have received the documents, you should call the JAC office a few days after the documents have been sent in.

If you have attended any college or vocational training, please submit an official transcript to the JAC office by the deadline in order to receive credit for it on your application.

3.  After we have received all documentation necessary, you will be notified by mail of your interview date.  It is your responsibility to keep a current address and phone number on file with our office so that you don’t miss important application dates.

4.  If you have extensive work experience and/or training in sheet metal and feel that you might qualify for advanced standing or credit, it is your responsibility to discuss this with the Joint Apprenticeship Committee at the time of your interview.

5.  If you are not selected at the present interview interval, you have the right to apply again on the next application date.  Applicants will not be interviewed more than two (2) times annually.

Jaime Hickman may be contacted at the JAC office: (405) 948-8800 or by cell at (405) 473-4884.
